ABSTRACT
Challenging differential diagnosis Background:Intussusception is the most common cause of intestinal obstruction in children, with a peak incidence usually before second year age, while neonates it rare entity. We describe delayed and incidental neonatal intussusception secondary to Meckel's diverticulum neonate shaken baby syndrome (SBS).This is, best our knowledge, first reported case as lead point neurologically impaired child. Case Report:A term presented at 22 days age Emergency Department severe conditions due suspected SBS.Eight following hospitalization Intensive Care Unit, an isolated episode rectal bleeding occurred, without any worsening general or abdominal distension. The ultrasonography showed "doughnut sign" high suspicion ileocecal intussusception.A barium contrast enema was performed but not resolutive. At exploratory laparotomy acting identified resection needed ischemic condition ileum. The post-operative course uneventful recovered well; residual neurological impairment long-term follow-up. Conclusions:Intussusception entity and, when present, can be missed because compromised paucity gastrointestinal manifestations. In addition, cases, we recommend reserving non-operative treatment only for selected cases.
