Outcome of burr-hole aspiration of brain abscess

ABSTRACT
Objective: To determine the clinical outcome of burr-hole aspiration brain abscess.Methods: We analyzed 100 cases intracranial abscess, treated surgically from January 2015 and October 2016 at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).All patients were with burr hole aspiration.Medical records for demographics, presentation, predisposing factors, abscess location on imaging outcomes charted. Results:The study included 73 (73%) males 27 (27%) females a mean age 36.69±10.96years.Mean duration signs symptoms was 8.50±4.2days.The most common presenting complaint altered sensorium in 70 (70%) commonest source infection otitis media seen (27%).The GCS presentation 13 57 (57%) cases.The parietal region site 43 (43%), followed by frontal 33 (33%).Complete resolution recovery preoperative neuro-deficit 77 (77%) major observed 10 (10%) while (13%) expired. Conclusion:Early diagnosis, optimum follow-up timely are keys proper management abscess.
