ABSTRACT
The Mediterranean Large Elasmobranchs Monitoring (MEDLEM) database contains over 3000 records (more than 4000 individuals) of large elasmobranch species from 20 different countries around the and Black seas, observed 1666 to 2017. main included in archive are devil fish (1 813 individuals), basking shark (939 blue (585 great white (337 individuals). In last decades other such as shortfin mako (166 spiny butterfly ray (138) thresher (174 were reported with an increasing frequency. This was possibly due increased public awareness on conservation status sharks, a consequent development new monitoring programmes. MEDLEM does not have homogeneous reporting coverage throughout seas it should be considered presence. Scientific efforts south-eastern generally lower northern sectors absence our some imply their actual these regions. Some considerations made frequency spatial distribution records, size structure individuals for selected species, general area involved by-catch by fishing gear.
