Socio-economic Impacts of Wastewater Irrigation on Local People in the Outskirts of Chandigarh Urban Areas

ABSTRACT
The use of wastewater for irrigation is a valuable strategy to maximize available water resources, but the fringe quality can present innumerable challenges. Water scarcity pushes farmers as an alternate source. study was conducted in peri-urban areas well-planned city Chandigarh with primary objective obtain information about current status and socio-economic reasons using from farmers’ perspective. Therefore, nineteen (19) villages were selected nearby four seasonal choes around sites. At site, we found that 64% freshwater, remaining crop irrigation. In this study, two contrasting perceptions observed among Results indicated have piece relatively good knowledge inappropriate its adverse effects. Although they concerned health, environmental social impacts yet, believed resource economically profitable them. Thus, highlighted need planning improve treatment along appropriate policies methods enhance commitment conservation human health.
