When long-term care comes to an end: informal caregivers’ perspectives on patient discharge

ABSTRACT
Background:The purpose of long-term integrated care units is the readaptation and reintegration into family social life.Objective: To understand informal caregivers' perspectives on discharge their relatives with dementia from facilities.Methodology: Fifteen caregivers (mean age 60 years) were interviewed, data qualitatively analyzed using NVivo.Results: Despite concern fear about discharge, most participants did not take any action.When questioned what they would do if member was discharged unit, mentioned that return home (n = 5) or go to a residential facility for older people 10).This decision justified by one more reasons, namely environmental factors, caregiver unavailability, relationship proximity, economic issues, issues.Conclusion: Healthcare professionals should consider reasons influencing integration delivery patient after better support, train, empower caregivers.These measures be part routine.
