Symptoms and Prevalence of Constipation among Adult Population of Riyadh City : An Internet Based Survey

ABSTRACT
Background: Constipation is commonly encountered in clinical practice. The global population witnessing a rapid increase its occurrence. Objectives: Since there paucity of data Saudi Arabia, need to assess prevalence population. This study was performed as pilot determine the symptoms and constipation among adult Riyadh city. Materials Methods:  A questionnaire based cross sectional survey done through twitter accounts. conducted 388 adults older than 20 years, between November 2016 January 2017. For diagnosis three criteria were used; self-perception, Rome III Bristol’s criteria. Results: Our showed that general 43%, 60% 25% according criteria, respectively. Females tend have greater males though not statistically significant. Multivariate analysis low dietary intake fruits vegetables, middle age (40-49years), strained defecation significantly associated with constipation. As per most common stool form Type 3 (sausage shaped cracked surface). Conclusion: These findings suggest high wider margin variation rates by obtained. Limitation:  may only be considered non-representative
