ABSTRACT
Environmental exposure to some persistent organic pollutants has been reported be associated with a metabolic syndrome in the U.S. population. We evaluated associations of body burden levels dioxins and related compounds prevalence among general population Japan. We conducted cross-sectional study 1,374 participants not occupationally exposed these pollutants, living throughout Japan during 2002-2006. In fasting blood samples, we measured biochemical factors determined lipid-adjusted concentrations 10 polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), 7 dibenzofurans (PCDFs), 12 dioxin-like poly-chlorinated biphenyls (DL-PCBs) all which have toxic equivalency factors. We also performed questionnaire survey. The equivalents (TEQs) PCDDs, PCDFs, DL-PCBs total TEQs had significant adjusted syndrome, whether or excluded diabetic subjects. By analyzing each component separately, DL-PCB were components, odds ratios (ORs) highest quartile four five components higher than those for PCDDs PCDFs. found congener-specific syndrome; particular, quartiles PCB-126 PCB-105 ORs 9.1 7.3, respectively. These results suggest that compounds, particularly DL-PCBs, are syndrome. Of high pressure, elevated triglycerides, glucose intolerance most closely pollutants.
