ABSTRACT
Progressive glomerular injury associated with early-onset proteinuria was investigated in male Osborne-Mendel (OM) rats aged 5 to 20 weeks. Age-matched Fischer 344 (F344) were used for comparison. OM developed mild hypertension and selective (albuminuria) from weeks of age, non-selective 7 age. Light microscopy kidney revealed hyaline droplets the podocyte at age vacuolation podocytes adhesion capillary loop Bowman's capsule Segmental glomerulosclerosis 15 global sclerosis appeared Desmin, a marker podocye injury, expressed 10 intensity expression increased Ultrastructurally, damage such as effacement foot processes, decreasing number filtration slits, rearrangement actin cytoskeleton observed rat. Glomerular volume consistently higher than age-matched F344 rats. The WT-1-positive vimentin-positive area lower decreased These findings suggest that glomerulonephropathy is hypertrophy, progressive podocytopathy, reduction area. Renal development more
