ABSTRACT
Canine herpesvirus-1 (CaHV-1) is a globally distributed pathogen causing reproductive, respiratory, ocular and neurological disorders in adult dogs neonatal death puppies. This considered poorly immunogenic, neutralizing antibodies are found for only short time following exposure. Further, seroprevalence can be affected by several epidemiological factors. A virological survey was conducted high-density population breeding kennel Central Italy. There were factors predisposing animals to CaHV-1 infection, such as age, number of pregnancies, experience with mating dog shows, cases abortion, management environmental hygiene. Serum neutralization (SN) nested PCR assays used estimate prevalence CaHV-1. None the submitted samples tested positive PCR, none sera positive. No association observed between antibody titers risk factors, no sign viral reactivation detected either males or females. These results suggest that not circulating within this further studies needed order better understand distribution virus
