<i>Raillietina cesticillus</i> infection causes reduced egg production in chickens in a windowless poultry house

ABSTRACT
In a windowless poultry house raising layer chickens in Kanagawa prefecture, Japan, slight increase the mortality of and decrease egg production were observed. Necropsy revealed numerous tapeworms proglottids chicken intestines. Histopathologically, gut-associated lymphoid tissues observed lamina propria jejunum; however, no significant changes other organs. Numerous hide beetles, Dermestes maculatus DeGeer, intermediate hosts Raillietina cesticillus, house. Following decline beetle numbers, increased decreased. The life cycle tapeworm was easily established closed space, such as house, which led to severe infections.
