ABSTRACT
We developed a technique which can increase the yield of one-to-one particle encapsulation by applying dielectrophoretic alignment using boxcar-type electrodes. Dielectrophoretic force generated electrodes accelerate and decelerate particles periodically as they flow in electrode region. Further, is turned on off at constant frequency. The exerted over space time align them streamwise direction with even interval. In this study, were installed microchannel region upstream flow-focusing channel water-in-oil droplets generated. By adjusting on-off period applied voltage generating to droplet generation, each could be separately encapsulated droplets. principle periodic was first described based one-dimensional model. structure characteristics generation then discussed relation surface tension fluids wettability wall. measured velocity distribution flowing evaluate effects motion performance. results showed that aligned fluctuating caused different This further demonstrated measuring probability function containing specific number particles, 100% achieved under investigated condition density 0.4. Moreover, throughput increased 46% compared case having supplied randomly.
