ABSTRACT
Abstract Aims. To examine the social triggers of sexual compulsivity amongst a diverse sample gay and bisexual men. Design Participants. Qualitative interviews were conducted with 180 men in United States who self-identified that their sex lives spinning out control. The data analyzed using grounded theory approach to explore range driving compulsions. Measurement. An open-ended interview structured clinical each participant. examined experiences over time impact problematic behaviors on lives. Findings. Two types emerged from data: event-centered contextual triggers. Event-centered arise sudden, unforeseen events. major identified: relationship turmoil catastrophes. Contextual triggers, other hand, have certain element predictability, included such things as location, people, use drugs, pornography. Conclusions. This framework has implications for prevention treatment compulsivity. Clinicians can utilize therapeutic process provide insight into ways effectively work through symptoms Awareness aspects may be critical understanding sexually compulsive clients. Thus, assessments should focus upon context addition psychological components disorder.
