ABSTRACT
SUMMARY A needs assessment of transgender people was conducted in Chicago 2001 to assess their HIV risks, health and social service needs, barriers care. One hundred eleven individuals, 78 male-to-females (MTFs) 33 female-to-males (FTMs), participated the study. Fourteen percent respondents reported being HIV-positive; they were all male-to-female majority color. Risk factors for included unprotected sex willingness have high-risk future. Respondents experienced high levels violence. Two-thirds had thought attempting suicide. a need services, particularly MTFs
