Classification and management of congenital abnormalities of the femur

ABSTRACT
Sixty-nine patients with congenital abnormality of the femur were reviewed. Their manifestation femoral dysplasia ranged from an intact approximately 60 per cent length normal leg to a subtotal absence in which only condyles remained, often fusion knee joint. Two groups defined: Group I consisted those hypoplastic hip and could be made functional where, some at least, equalisation was possible; II true proximal focal deficiency where joint never always useless. The each group examined evaluated respect clinical signs, surgical procedures performed, prosthetic requirements function. A protocol treatment for both is suggested.
