Distal metatarsal osteotomy for hallux varus following surgery for hallux valgus

ABSTRACT
We reviewed the outcome of distal chevron metatarsal osteotomy without tendon transfer in 19 consecutive patients (19 feet) with a hallux varus deformity following surgery for valgus. All underwent medial displacement and closing wedge along capsular release. The mean valgus angle improved from -11.6° pre-operatively to 4.7° postoperatively, first-second intermetatarsal -0.3° 3.3° articular 9.5° 2.3° first metatarsophalangeal joints became congruent post-operatively all feet. relative length ratio metatarsus decreased 1.01 0.99 American Orthopaedic Foot Ankle Society score 77 95 points. In two recurred. One was symptom-free but other remained symptomatic after repeat osteotomy. There were no complications. consider that release is useful procedure correction
