ABSTRACT
We report the results of vertebral column resection (VCR) for paediatric patients with spinal deformity. A total 49 VCRs in from four university hospitals between 2005 and 2009 a minimum two-year follow-up were retrospectively identified. After excluding single hemivertebral resections (n = 25) performed myelomeningocele 6), as well spondylectomies tumour 4), there 14 who had undergone full VCR at mean age 12.3 years (6.5 to 17.9). The aetiology was congenital scoliosis five, neuromuscular three, kyphosis two, global adolescent idiopathic one secondary one. seven anteroposterior posterolateral approaches used. major curve deformity 86° (67° 120°) pre-operatively 37° (17° 80°) follow-up; correction 54% (18% 86%) 60% (41% 70%) group (p 0.53). Scoliosis Research Society-24 scores 100 (92 108) 102 (95 105) group. There paraparesis necessitating urgent re-decompression, recovery. Patients undergoing are highly satisfied after successful procedure.
