ABSTRACT
In the Czech Republic, associations of independent candidates play an exceptional role in local politics; fact, members such are most common type politician country. Even large political parties do have enough to put together candidate lists municipalities without help not affiliated any party. This article demonstrates cogency distinguishing between two types non-party politicians. First, there politicians (candidates, councillors) who party but take advantage opportunity run for them. Second, independents either independently or on candidates. While similar many respects, also important differences two. Independents more frequently women and people before November 1989 were Communist Party. Compared members, non-members often elected basis preference votes, smaller ambitions stand re-election.
