ABSTRACT
The fabrication, properties, and irradiation behavior of Li2O γ-LiAlO2 are reviewed assessed to determine the potential these materials satisfy basic solid breeder blanket performance requirements. Based on data analysis theoretical modeling, a set major technical uncertainties is identified. These include1. fabricability sphere-pac breeders2. highfluence burnup effects thermal conductivity microstructural stability3. tritium diffusion coefficients at low temperature4. relationship among purge flow chemistry, surface adsorption, species released tritium5. mechanical properties loads imposed structural by during operation.Resolution issues important in assuring that blankets can be designed with confidence.
