Siblings' Premarital Childbearing and the Timing of First Sex in Three Major Cities of Côte d'Ivoire

ABSTRACT
CONTEXT:The association between youths' sexual and reproductive attitudes behaviors those of their peers parents has been documented; however, information on siblings' influence is scarce, especially for developing countries. METHODS:Data 1,395 female 1,242 male survey respondents aged 15-24 from three cities in Côte d'Ivoire were analyzed.Life-table analysis was conducted to examine respondents' probability remaining sexually inexperienced according history premarital childbearing.Cox multivariate regressions used estimate relative risks debut by age 17 24.RESULTS: At any 15 24 years, the life-table typically lower among persons who had at least one sibling with a birth than no such sibling.In general, birth, if or siblings respondent same gender rather opposite genders, lowest brother sister childbearing.In males, having more brothers only, sister, childbearing associated increased being experienced ages 24.No found females.CONCLUSION: Programs that seek reduce activity young people should develop strategies take into account potential siblings.
