ABSTRACT
Feature Issue on Passive Optical Network Architectures and TechnologiesWe propose demonstrate that the power budget scalability of wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network (WDM PON) implemented by using reflective semiconductor amplifiers (RSOAs) can be significantly improved modulating downstream signals in Manchester format instead conventional non-return-to-zero format. As an example, we experimentally show maximum transmission distance RSOA-based WDM PON increased a factor 2 Manchester-encoded signals.
