ABSTRACT
An ultra-compact broadband TE-pass polarizer was proposed and demonstrated on the silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform, using horizontal nanoplasmonic slot waveguide (HNSW). Detailed design principle presented, taking advantage of distinct confinement region TE TM modes in HNSW. mode cut-off could be achieved when width below 210 nm. Proof-of-concept devices were subsequently fabricated a CMOS-compatible process. The optimized device had an active length 1 μm, three orders magnitude smaller than similar previously SOI platform. More 16 dB polarization extinction ratio across 80 nm wavelength range, with relatively low insertion loss 2.2dB. compact size excellent performance provide simple yet satisfactory solution to dependent drawback silicon photonics
