ABSTRACT
We describe the design, fabrication, and characterization of a 1-dimensional silicon photonic crystal cavity with quality factor-to-mode volume ratio greater than 10(7), which exceeds highest previous values by an order magnitude. The maximum electric field is outside in void formed central slot. An extremely small calculated mode 0.0096 (λvac/n)(3) achieved through abrupt change slot, despite high factor 8.2 × 10(5) predicted simulation. Quality factors up to 1.4 are measured actual devices. observation pronounced thermo-optic bistability consistent strong confinement light these cavities.
