ABSTRACT
Solid para-H2 is a promising gain medium for stimulated Raman scattering, due to its high number density and narrow linewidth. In preparation the design of cw solid hydrogen laser, we have made first measurements, our knowledge, index refraction crystal, in wavelength range 430-1100 nm. For crystal stabilized at 4.4 K, this refractive measured be n(p-H2)=1.130±0.001 514 A slight, but significant, dependence on final crystal-growth temperature observed, with higher n(p-H2) temperatures. Once grown, it can heated up 10 K no change n(p-H2). The varies only slightly over observed range, significant birefringence was observed.
