ABSTRACT
We report a functionality-switchable terahertz polarization converter based on an L-shaped planar metamaterial arranged the graphene/hBN/Si/SiO2/Ag substrate. By dynamically controlling chemical potential of graphene sheet, we demonstrate functional switch from high-performance quarter-wave plate (ellipticity more than 0.97) to half-wave (PCR>97%) within working bandwidth 4.80 THz 5.10 THz. The physical mechanism our proposed active device is well explained both macroscopic and microscopic sides. This shows compact structure convenient in fabrication gate-voltage operation, which may be applied practical imaging, detection, communication.
