Feasibility and readiness to implement Robson classification to monitor caesarean sections in public hospitals in Myanmar: Formative research

ABSTRACT
Recent years have demonstrated an increase in caesarean section (CS) most countries worldwide with considerable concern for the potential consequences. In 2015, WHO proposed use of Robson classification as a global standard assessing, monitoring and comparing CS rates. Currently, there is no standardized method to assess Myanmar. The aim this study was explore health provider’s perceptions about feasibility, acceptability readiness implement public hospitals across Ten maternities were purposively chosen, including all five teaching (tertiary referral hospital-level) affiliated each medical university Myanmar, which provide maternal newborn care services, district/township hospitals. Face-to-face in-depth interviews (IDI) healthcare providers facility administrators conducted using semi-structured discussion guides. Facility records systems also assessed. We used thematic analysis approach Atlas.ti qualitative software. A total 67 IDIs conducted. Most participants had willingness if sufficient human resources training. Limited resources, heavy workloads, infrastructure major challenges described that may hinder implementation. focal person data entry, analysis, or reporting could be differed according level facility, availability ability understand terms statistics. respondents mentioned important role policy enforcement sustainability collection, interpretation feedback. optimal review interval period therefore differ responsible persons, number births. However, setting fixed schedule specific hospital continuous rate required. implementation feasible while key barriers mainly related resource training must addressed sustain.
