ABSTRACT
Despite massive research efforts, the molecular etiology of bovine polledness and developmental pathways involved in horn ontogenesis are still poorly understood. In a recent article, we provided evidence for existence at least two different alleles Polled locus identified candidate mutations each them. None these was located known coding or regulatory regions, thus adding to complexity understanding basis polledness. We confirm previous results here exhaustively identify causative mutation Celtic allele (PC) four Friesian (PF). describe previously unreported eyelash-and-eyelid phenotype associated with regular polledness, present unique histological gene expression data on bud differentiation fetuses affected by three defect syndromes, as well wild-type controls. propose ectopic lincRNA PC/p buds probable cause agenesis. addition, provide an involvement OLIG2, FOXL2 RXFP2 differentiation, draw first link between bovine, ovine caprine loci. Our represent important step genetic key process Bovidae.
