ABSTRACT
Purpose: Huntington's disease is a rare condition. Patients are commonly treated with antipsychotics and tetrabenazine. The evidence of their effect on progression limited no comparative study between these drugs has been conducted. We therefore compared the effectiveness progression. Methods: 956 patients from Huntington French Speaking Group were followed for up to 8 years 2002 2010. treatments was assessed using Unified Disease Rating Scale (UHDRS) scores then mixed model adjusted multiple propensity score. Results: 63% during survey period. most prescribed medications dibenzodiazepines (38%), risperidone (13%), tetrabenazine (12%) benzamides (12%). There difference motor behavioural declines observed, after taking patient profiles at start drug prescription into account. In contrast, functional decline lower in dibenzodiazepine group than other antipsychotic groups (Total Functional Capacity: 0.41±0.17 units per year vs. 0.54±0.19 tetrabenazine, both p<0.05). Benzamides less effective cognitive evolution (Stroop interference, Stroop color Literal fluency: Conclusions: Antipsychotics widely used treat disease. Although differences or according small, there scores.
