ABSTRACT
Hepatitis B virus genotype A1 (HBV/A1), of African origin, is the most prevalent in Brazil, while HBV/F predominates other South American countries. However, HBV/D common three states southern where 'islands' elevated prevalence, as Chapecó and cities, have been described. In this study, 202 HBV chronic carriers attending 2013 viral hepatitis ambulatory Chapecó, were investigated. comparison with previous studies performed same ambulatory, a rapid aging infected population was observed (mean age newly diagnosed patients increasing from 29.9 ± 10.3 years 1996 to 44.4 13.3 2013), probably due singular vaccination schedule at that included not only children but also adolescents. Phylogenetic BLAST analyses (S region) classified 91 isolates into genotypes A (n = 3) D 88). The majority closely related D3 sequences. To understand reasons for absence or near F, how introduced south inquired about their genealogical geographical origins. Forty-three (52%) four grandparents Italian vs. seven (8%) who Brazilian origin. At all, 65 out 83 (78%) had least one grandparent originating Italy. Taking consideration fact Italy few countries subgenotype predominant, results strongly suggested Brazil through immigration which culminated between 1870 1920.
