Coping with Workplace Violence against General Practitioners and Nurses in Heilongjiang Province, China: Social Supports and Prevention Strategies

ABSTRACT
The study's objectives were to: 1) use social support theory to examine factors influencing healthcare workers' opinions about workplace violence (WPV) prevention strategies, and 2) determine the types of that general practitioners (GPs) nurses sought expected after WPV exposure. A cross-sectional survey was used assess a sample 448 GPs 412 from 90 township hospitals located in Heilongjiang province, China. Results revealed workers exposed physical, psychological or both had strong opinion necessity improving diagnosis/treatment competence, developing guidelines plans, using protective equipment, reinforcing staff by providing back-up support. last two strategies also selected tertiary hospital our previous study. In addition, with high anxiety following as most effective: doctor-patient communication skills; installing cameras on wards; keeping work areas bright; improvements reporting, statistics, interventions; security patrols key departments; staff; correcting inaccurate media perspectives reports. four workers. All respondents receive organisational conclusion, these should be tailored different requirements specific populations. Furthermore, it is necessary for organisations, public, policymakers provide powerful prevention.
