ABSTRACT
Herpes Simplex Virus Type -1 (HSV-1) infections can cause serious complications such as keratitis and encephalitis. The goal of this study was to identify any changes in the concentrations volatile organic compounds (VOCs) produced during HSV-1 infection epithelial cells that could potentially be used an indicator a response stress. An additional objective if VOCs released from acute may influence subsequent neuronal facilitate latency. To investigate these hypotheses, Vero were infected with emission analyzed using two-dimensional gas chromatograph/mass spectrometry (2D GC/MS). It observed gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) particular changed significantly after 24-hour infection. Since establish latency neurons infection, GBL tested determine it exerts regulation results indicated altered resting membrane potential differentiated LNCaP promoted non-permissive state by repressing viral replication. These observations provide useful clues towards understanding complex signaling pathways occur primary establishment
