Characteristics of Severe Retinopathy of Prematurity in Infants with Birth Weight above 1500 Grams at a Referral Center in Turkey

ABSTRACT
To demonstrate the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of severe retinopathy prematurity (ROP) in preterm infants with birth weight (BW) above 1500 g Turkey.A retrospective review 5920 ROP records was performed Zeynep Kamil Maternity Children's Diseases Training Research Hospital. The were obtained from center same institute between 2011 2016. data comprised demographic including, gestational age, BW, systemic risk factors, zone stage ROP, type, modality, inborn/outborn status babies.A total 36 (71 eyes) BW> retrieved. There 30 (83.3%) type 1 6 (16.7%) aggressive posterior (APROP). 3 (8.3%) born at our hospital whereas 33 (91.7%) referred outer private neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) centers. Zone I APROP detected during initial screening. 21 (58.3%) underwent laser while 15 (41.7%) received intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) injections. No unfavorable structural outcome observed following either modality.Severe may occur heavier infants. Laser IVB injections useful selected cases. Presence first examination suggests an earlier screening babies. Standardization NICU centers as well establishing a national protocol is necessary Turkey.
