ABSTRACT
Age is an important risk factor for breast cancer, but data regarding whether patient age at diagnosis related to cancer survival are conflicting. This population-based study evaluated the effect of on prognosis and identified outcome-related factors. We searched Surveillance, Epidemiology, End Results (SEER) database enrolled female primary non-metastatic cases. Patients were subdivided into seven groups, analyses associations between overall (OS) cancer-specific (BCSS) carried out using Kaplan-Meier method Cox regression model, respectively. We also assessed differences in among three specific ages 30 50 years as cut-offs. Stratified race, histology, grade, stage hormone receptor status out.A total 133,057 patients diagnosed with from 2004 2008 included current (6.4% <40 years), Women aged 40 49 60 69 exhibited significantly better OS BCSS, respectively (log-rank, p<0.001), than their counterparts other groups. Middle-aged women distinctly p<0.001) BCSS two Following adjustments potential confounding factors, middle-age was shown be independent predictor favourable outcomes terms OS, not (for HR, 0.92; 95%CI, 0.87-0.98; p = 0.007; 0.94; 0.80-1.01; 0.075, young group reference). analysis showed that associated increased survival, except III disease, elderly faced worse prognoses younger patients. Our results indicate exhibit more aggressive disease older patients. rates similar those after confounders. demonstrated middle-aged patients, exception disease. An or a significant poor prognosis.
