ABSTRACT
Systemic vascular dysfunction has been suggested to contribute glaucomatous damage. Albuminuria is a surrogate marker of endothelial injury, including vessels. However, their relationship not well understood. This study aimed investigate the association between albuminuria and prevalence open-angle glaucoma (OAG) in nondiabetic subjects. We conducted cross-sectional 4186 participants aged 19 years or older from 2011-2012 Korea National Health Nutrition Examination Survey. OAG was defined based on criteria International Society for Geographic Epidemiologic Ophthalmology. Urinary albumin excretion assessed by urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR). A multivariate logistic regression analysis performed evaluate OAG.Among subjects, 124 had OAG. The weighted prevalences microalbuminuria (UACR 30-299 mg/g creatinine [Cr]) macroalbuminuria ≥ 300 Cr) were 3.2 ± 0.3% 0.4 0.1%, respectively. percentages increased accordance with increasing UACR tertiles. Compared subjects lower tertile, those upper tertile showed an (odds ratio, 1.963; 95% confidence interval 1.072-3.595, P = 0.029) after adjusting demographic factors, laboratory parameters, kidney function, intraocular pressure. Furthermore, even excluding 155 macroalbuminuria, positive persisted (low-grade albuminuria) 2.170; interval, 1.174-4.010, 0.014).Albuminuria, low-grade, significantly associated subjects. result implies role pathogenic mechanism suggests that careful monitoring required albuminuria.
