ABSTRACT
Studies on the influence of mannose-binding lectin (MBL) deficiency infection susceptibility in preterm infants have yielded controversial results. We investigated association genotype-based MBL levels with outcome very-low-birth weight (VLBWI).We genotyped 3 genetic variants MBL2 (rs1800450, rs1800451, rs5030737) 6878 VLBWI. plasma were categorized as normal (wild type, A/A), low (heterozygotes, A/O) or undetectable (homozygotes, O/O). Primary was effect blood-culture proven and clinical sepsis during primary stay hospital. also evaluated burden within 24 months after discharge. We found no between risk whole cohort. Infants without measurable born 32 0/7 to 36 6/7 weeks gestation, however, had a higher rate Gram-negative than reduced levels. In follow-up investigation at (n = 1070 infants), suffered more frequently from stomatitis urinary tract infection. In large cohort VLBWI major impact unless children gestation.
