ABSTRACT
Aim Resistin is a cytokine related with inflammation and ischemic heart disease. Physical activity (PA) prevents chronic We studied the relationship of serum concentration resistin HDL cholesterol, known biomarker PA, different measures in large sample general adult population Canary Islands. Methods Cross-sectional study 6636 adults recruited randomly. analyzed correlation cholesterol PA (as metabolic equivalent level [MET]), fitted results linear logistic regression models using adjustment for age, alcohol consumption smoking. Results Mean was higher women (p<0.001), correlated inversely (p<0.001) (p<0.001 men), directly smoking (p<0.001). duration leisure time MET moderate some differences between sexes. Men (OR = 0.78 [0.61–0.99; p<0.05]) 0.75 [0.61–0.92; p<0.01]) upper quintile had lower risk elevated resistin. In contrast, high degree sedentarism associated an increased 1.24 [1.04–1.47; p<0.05] men 1.40 [1.01–1.82; p<0.05]). Conclusions our population, levels cholesterol. The association stronger than making potentially useful PA.
