Factors associated with occasional and recurrent falls in Mexican community-dwelling older people

ABSTRACT
Falls are a frequent event among older adults that can cause wounds, disability, psychological disorders, and premature death. Although the large number of existing studies on issue, few have been conducted in middle- low-income countries. The objective present study is to identify sociodemographic, medical, functional performance factors associated with occasional recurrent falls Mexican dwelling community. Cross-sectional analysis 9 598 ≥60 years old who participated fourth round (2015) Health Aging Study. Bivariate tests were performed evaluate differences between covariates by distinct fall groups (no falls, falls). Multiple logistic regressions unadjusted adjusted models estimated. Approximately 46% had at least one during previous two (one 16% 30%). Occasional only being woman; addition sex, strongly advanced age, rural residence, bad very self-perception health status, activity-limiting pain, urinary incontinence, depression, arthritis, limitations basic activities daily living, living. Falls, primarily deserve be addressed through multifactorial strategies include different areas intervention.
