ABSTRACT
False banana /Ensete ventricosum [Welw.] Cheesman/ is exploited as a food crop in Ethiopia where it represents an important staple food. The plant harvested and large amounts of biomass residues are originated, mainly from the pseudo stem (i.e., fiber bundles obtained leaf sheaths after being scrapped to produce starchy food) inflorescence stalk. These materials were studied relation their summative chemical composition, composition lignin, lipophilic polar extracts. Moreover, structural characteristics, view valorization, scrutinized. analytical studies performed with aid FTIR, GC/MS, Py-GC/MS SEM. aggregates long slender fibers low ash, extractives lignin contents (3.8%. 4.4% 10.5% respectively) high holocellulose α-cellulose (87.5% 59.6% respectively). hemicelluloses mostly highly acetylated xylans H-type (H:G:S, 1:0.7:0.8). This line FTIR peaks at 1670 cm-1 1250 cm-1.The stalk has ash content (12.3% main 24.6% fines) major proportion potassium, (25.9%), (5.8% 17.9% includes numerous starch granules cellular structure predominant presence parenchyma. potential valorization routes for these clearly different. could be used source paper pulp production possibility prior removal while nutritional value fodder. Furthermore, can also sugar fermentation products.
