ABSTRACT
Introduction Early diagnosis and prompt effective treatment is one of the pillars malaria control. Malaria case management guidelines recommend diagnostic testing before using Rapid Diagnostic Test (mRDT) or microscopy this was adopted in Nigeria 2010. However, despite deployment mRDT, use mRDTs by health workers varies settings. This study set out to assess factors influencing utilisation mRDT among healthcare Zamfara State, Nigeria. Methods A cross-sectional carried 306 selected multistage sampling from six Local Government Areas between January February 2017. Mixed method used for data collection. pre-tested self-administered questionnaire collect information on knowledge, utilization. An observational checklist availability months prior study. Data were analyzed descriptive statistics such as means proportions. Association independent variables tested Chi square while multiple regression determine predictors at 5% level significance. Results Mean age respondents 36.0 ± 9.4years. Overall, 198 (64.7%) had good knowledge mRDT; available 33 (61.1%) facilities. Routine reported 253 (82.7%) workers. comprised 89 (35.2%) laboratory scientists/technicians, community extension workers/community officers; 59 (23.3%) nurses 16 (6.3%) doctors. Health workers' trust results, having received training non-payment utilisation. Conclusion demonstrated that worker associated with system-related are potentially modifiable.
