ABSTRACT
The basidiomycete Chondrostereum purpureum (Silverleaf fungus) is a saprotroph and plant pathogen commercially used for combatting forest "weed" trees in vegetation management. However, little known about its lignocellulose-degrading capabilities the enzymatic machinery that responsible degradative potential, it not yet clear to which group of wood-rot fungi actually belongs. Here, we sequenced analyzed draft genome C. (41.2 Mbp) performed quantitative proteomic approach during growth submerged solid-state cultures based on soybean meal suspension or containing beech wood supplemented with phenol-rich olive mill residues, respectively. fungus harbors characteristic lignocellulolytic hydrolases (GH6 GH7) oxidoreductases (e.g. laccase, heme peroxidases). High abundance some these genes 45 laccases, nine can be explained by gene expansion, e.g. identified laccase orthogroup ORTHOMCL11 exhibits total 18 lineage-specific duplications. Other expanded families encode proteins more related pathogenic lifestyle protease cytochrome P450s). responds presence complex substrates (lignocellulose, phenolic residues) secretion most lignin-modifying enzymes alcohol aryl oxidases, GH6, GH7). Based genetic constitution, consider 'marasmioid' as 'phytopathogenic' white-rot (WRF) possesses extracellular enzyme accomplish efficient lignocellulose degradation both saprotrophic phytopathogenic life phases.
