Multidimensional Scales of Perceived Self-Efficacy (MSPSE): Measurement invariance across Italian and Colombian adolescents

Multidimensional Perceived Self-Efficacy Scale for Children has been developed as an important tool to measure Self-Efficacy in school contexts. The present study assesses the measurement invariance of the MSPSE across two samples of Italian and Colombian adolescents using Multi-sample Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Participants were Italian (N = 564) and Colombian (N = 645) students attending the 7th grade (age 12-13) drawn from a residential community near Rome and three Colombian cities: Medellin, Manizales and Santa Marta. Findings from gender invariance provide high support for full and partial invariance among Colombian and Italian adolescents respectively. Cross-national comparison showed partial scalar invariance between Italy and Colombia, with Italian students perceiving themselves as more efficacious on Academic, Social and Self-Regulatory dimensions. MSPSE's structural validity has been confirmed, along with its three-factor-structure across gender, for the Italian and Colombian samples. The findings support the invariance and the validity of this scale to measure Self-Efficacy in school contexts from a cross-cultural perspective.<br/>تم تطوير مقياس الكفاءة الذاتية المدركة متعدد الأبعاد للأطفال كأداة مهمة لقياس الكفاءة الذاتية في السياقات المدرسية. تقيّم هذه الدراسة ثبات قياس MSPSE عبر عينتين من المراهقين الإيطاليين والكولومبيين باستخدام تحليل العوامل المؤكدة متعدد العينات. كان المشاركون طلابًا إيطاليين (N = 564) وكولومبيين (N = 645) يحضرون الصف السابع (من سن 12 إلى 13 عامًا) من مجتمع سكني بالقرب من روما وثلاث مدن كولومبية: ميديلين ومانيزاليس وسانتا مارتا. توفر نتائج الثبات بين الجنسين دعمًا كبيرًا للثبات الكامل والجزئي بين المراهقين الكولومبيين والإيطاليين على التوالي. أظهرت المقارنة عبر الوطنية ثباتًا جزئيًا بين إيطاليا وكولومبيا، حيث يعتبر الطلاب الإيطاليون أنفسهم أكثر فاعلية في الأبعاد الأكاديمية والاجتماعية والتنظيم الذاتي. تم تأكيد الصلاحية الهيكلية لـ MSPSE، إلى جانب هيكلها المكون من ثلاثة عوامل عبر الجنس، للعينات الإيطالية والكولومبية. تدعم النتائج ثبات وصلاحية هذا المقياس لقياس الكفاءة الذاتية في السياقات المدرسية من منظور متعدد الثقافات.<br/>La Escala de autoeficacia percibida multidimensional para niños se ha desarrollado como una herramienta importante para medir la autoeficacia en contextos escolares. El presente estudio evalúa la invariancia de medición del MSPSE en dos muestras de adolescentes italianos y colombianos utilizando el Análisis Factorial Confirmatorio de Muestras Múltiples. Los participantes fueron estudiantes italianos (N = 564) y colombianos (N = 645) de séptimo grado (12-13 años) provenientes de una comunidad residencial cerca de Roma y tres ciudades colombianas: Medellín, Manizales y Santa Marta. Los hallazgos de la invariancia de género brindan un alto apoyo para la invariancia total y parcial entre los adolescentes colombianos e italianos, respectivamente. La comparación transnacional mostró una invariancia escalar parcial entre Italia y Colombia, y los estudiantes italianos se percibieron a sí mismos como más eficaces en las dimensiones académica, social y de autorregulación. Se ha confirmado la validez estructural de MSPSE, junto con su estructura de tres factores en función del género, para las muestras italiana y colombiana. Los hallazgos respaldan la invariancia y la validez de esta escala para medir la autoeficacia en contextos escolares desde una perspectiva intercultural.<br/>L'échelle multidimensionnelle d'auto-efficacité perçue pour les enfants a été développée comme un outil important pour mesurer l'auto-efficacité dans les contextes scolaires. La présente étude évalue l'invariance de la mesure du MSPSE sur deux échantillons d'adolescents italiens et colombiens à l'aide d'une analyse de facteurs de confirmation multi-échantillons. Les participants étaient des étudiants italiens (N = 564) et colombiens (N = 645) de 7e année (âgés de 12 à 13 ans) provenant d'une communauté résidentielle près de Rome et de trois villes colombiennes : Medellín, Manizales et Santa Marta. Les résultats de l'invariance de genre fournissent un soutien élevé pour l'invariance complète et partielle chez les adolescents colombiens et italiens respectivement. La comparaison transnationale a montré une invariance scalaire partielle entre l'Italie et la Colombie, les étudiants italiens se percevant comme plus efficaces sur les dimensions académique, sociale et d'autorégulation. La validité structurelle du MSPSE a été confirmée, ainsi que sa structure à trois facteurs à travers le genre, pour les échantillons italien et colombien. Les résultats confirment l'invariance et la validité de cette échelle pour mesurer l'auto-efficacité dans les contextes scolaires dans une perspective interculturelle.<br/>
