ABSTRACT
Combined application of biochar and nitrogen (N) fertilizer has the potential to reduce N losses from soil. However, effectiveness amendment on management can vary with types different physical chemical properties. This study aimed assess effect two hardwood ash contents cation exchange capacity (CEC) soil mineralization nitrous oxide (N 2 O) production when applied alone in combination fertilizer. Soil samples collected a temperate pasture system were amended (B1 B2), urea, urea plus biochar, incubated for 60 days along control (without or addition). nitrate N, ammonium ammonia-oxidizing bacteria amo A gene transcripts, O measured during experiment. Compared control, addition B1 (higher CEC lower content) decreased concentration by 21% 45% incubation period while B2 (lower higher increased first 10 days. Biochar also reduced abundance transcripts 71% after + resulted significantly greater initial increase concentrations. had 60-day cumulative emission compared urea. Overall, ammonification nitrification rates, content production. Our demonstrated that enhance retention it is but specific effects added depend its
