Prostate cancer differently affects different regions of the world, displaying higher rates in more developed areas. After implementation prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing, several studies described rising globally, but it is possible that indolent lesions are being detected given lack changes mortality data. The Brazilian government recommends against PSA screening male population regardless age, Urology Society issued a report recommending should start at 50 years old for certain men and those aged ≥75 with life expectancy exceeding 10 years. In this study, we examined incidence invasive prostate over time Sergipe state Brazil. databases Aracaju Cancer Registry Mortality Information System were used to calculate age-standardized all tumors (International Classification Diseases 10th edition: C61 D07.5) following age ranges: 20–44, 45–54, ≥65 We identified 3595 cases cancer, 30 glandular intraepithelial high-grade lesions, 3269 deaths. Using Joinpoint Regression Program, found dramatically increased until mid-2000s groups, after which declined. 2005, followed by non-significant annual percent change 22.0 2001–2005 stable rate thereafter. noticed increases decreases associated recommendations. Meanwhile, did not appear be decreased testing; instead, they linked effects improvements identification cause death. Thus, do believe program would benefit study.
