Diabetes self-care practice and associated factors among type 2 diabetic patients in public hospitals of Tigray regional state, Ethiopia: A multicenter study

ABSTRACT
Background The prevalence of type 2 diabetes is increasing steadily at an alarming rate. Ethiopia placed fourth among the top five countries African region members international federation. This study aimed to determine level self-care practice and associated factors patients with mellitus attending public hospitals Tigray region. Methods An institution-based, cross-sectional was conducted in six selected from January February 2020. Study participants were recruited using a systematic random sampling method. Diabetes assessed Summary Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) assessment tool. data collected by trained nurses via face-to-face interview. Binary multivariable logistic regression analyses used identify practices. Statistical significance declared p-value < 0.05. Results A total 570 included this study. mean (SD) age participant 46 (±14.6) years. Less than half (46.7%) had good Surprisingly, only 68 (11.9%) access personal glucometer. Urban residency (AOR = 1.9, 95% CI 1.20–2.94), group 48–63 years 2.1, 1.19–3.98), not having formal education 2.6, 1.32–5.25), family support 1.24–2.85), glucometer home 6.1, 2.83–13.0) Conclusion found be poor. Where like, being urban resident, between 49–63 years, education, Health care providers might have consider actions act on identified improve practices patients.
