Insight in schizophrenia is associated with psychoeducation and social support: Testing a new more comprehensive insight tool in Turkish schizophrenia patients

ABSTRACT
Insight is a continuous and multidimensional phenomenon, including awareness of having an illness, the presence symptoms accurate symptom attribution, need for treatment, consequences treatment. Good insight into illness associated with better adherence to cognitive, psychosocial, vocational functioning along less severity, decreased relapses, hospitalizations. Several tools are used evaluation. We recruited 90 patients diagnosed schizophrenia analyzed forms 58 patients. The completed VAGUS-SR (self-rated), Beck Cognitive Scale, Knowledge About Schizophrenia Questionnaire, Multidimensional Scale Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Clinicians performed mental status examination Positive Negative Syndrome Schedule Assessment Insight, VAGUS-CR (clinician-rated), Calgary Depression Schizophrenia, Clinical Global Impressions. found that level evaluated using VAGUS increased knowledge regarding schizophrenia. Upon investigating relationship between perceived social support insight, we identified only significant other subscales MSPSS, one scale sub-dimensions total scores MSPSS. Our findings also suggest scales can be evaluate in Turkish populations. positive emphasizes importance increasing through interventions aimed at improving insight. data highlighted value psychoeducational studies this patient group. Considering effects on schizophrenia, it would beneficial use such as VAGUS, which allow insights individuals detail by both clinician patient.
