ABSTRACT
Background The symptom profiles of acute SARS-CoV-2 infection and long-COVID in children young people (CYP), risk factors, associated healthcare needs, are poorly defined. Schools Infection Survey 1 (SIS-1) was a nationwide study primary secondary schools England during the 2020/21 school year. Covid-19 Mapping Mitigation (CoMMinS) conducted Bristol area over similar period. Both studies testing to identify current previous infection, recorded symptoms attendance. These research data have been linked routine electronic health record (EHR) data. Aims To better understand short- long-term consequences their CYP. Methods Retrospective cohort nested case-control analyses will be for SIS-1 CoMMinS EHR association between (1) symptomatic factors; (2) effects on health: (a) persistent symptoms; (b) any new diagnosis; (c) prescription care; (d) service attendance; (e) high rate absence. Results Our improve understanding CYP by characterising trajectory terms things like diagnoses conditions. inform which groups more likely get acute- outcomes patterns related healthcare-seeking behaviour, relevant planning. Digested information produced affected families, doctors, schools, public, as appropriate. Conclusion Linked represent unique rich resource impact children’s health, benefiting from enhanced ability assess wide range outcomes.
