Abstract The call for the inclusive participation of adults with intellectual disabilities in research has been taken up by an emerging literature advocating same opportunities people profound and multiple learning (PMLD). Yet, barriers to researchers engaging demands particular characteristics NHS ethical approval processes are well rehearsed. This can contribute marginalization already faced PMLD, associated risk that group remains under-researched. case study explores current participatory action utilizing arts techniques PMLD. It suggests despite challenges, engagement ethics be framed not as isolated form-filling exercise but a reflective device presenting ongoing opportunity gain perspectives on proposed project. offers possibilities collaboratively shape design develop evolving consent process. identifies creative strategies have contributed successful approvals subsequent PMLD cultural activities.
