Risk factors assessment of bovine tuberculosis among abattoir personnel in Gombe State, Northeastern Nigeria: A One-Health approach

ABSTRACT
Aim: Bovine tuberculosis (bTB) is an important milk-borne zoonosis that affects cattle production and poses serious threat to public health. This study aimed at assessing the risk factors as well level of awareness, attitude, practices abattoir personnel toward bTB in Gombe Township Abattoir, State. Materials Methods: A prospective survey was conducted between October 2015 December 2015. During survey, a total 112 close-ended structured questionnaires were administered assess their awareness bTB. Results: Of these respondents, majority males (79%), butchers (49%) about 40% under productive age brackets 26-35 years. Majority respondents (85.7%) aware zoonotic nature disease. However, only few (44.6%) wear personal protective equipments (PPEs) clothes while handling or contact with carcasses during slaughtering process. Only among (24.1% 31.2%) consumed unpasteurized milk unaware eating improperly cooked meat factor bTB, respectively. About 75.7% believed habit drinking inside operations has no any significant effects on The results obtained show statistically association respondents' occupational status, duration exposure carcasses, knowledge disease (p<0.05); odds being 10.0, 5.07, 4.2, Conclusion: demonstrates need for health authorities intervene prevention control through creation avenues enlightenment associated transmission indicated by personnel's practice levels township are preventable use PPEs clothing.
