ABSTRACT
Micro surfacing (MS) is a type of bituminous coating frequently applied in the surface pavement structures order to prevent occurrence common distress and/or as maintenance procedure. has successfully been used some states Brazil well many countries all over world. Local aggregates for micro composition are cases scarce expensive. Therefore, main objective present research verify technical, financial and environmental viability using steel slag aggregate (SSA) applications. To reach objective, procedure was developed four steps. In first step it made characterization conventional (granitic) alternative (steel slag) polymer-modified emulsified asphalt. second step, mix design, abrasion resistance setting time tests were performed. third mechanical performance analyzed laboratory traffic simulator observe accumulated permanent deformation; wear; texture macro texture. fourth comparative study costs concerning application mineral (MS-MA) (MS-SSA) The results indicated that studied potential be applications with more rutting better durability. cost analysis showed medium transport distances bigger than 60 km, MS-SSA will cheaper MS-MA solution.
