Ultrasound-guided Platelet-rich Plasma Prolotherapy for Temporomandibular Disorders

ABSTRACT
Purpose: Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is one of the most common diseases causing chronic orofacial pain. Prolotherapy called 'regenerative injection therapy' or 'growth factor stimulation injection', and it induces functional reactivation tissues such as ligaments tendons. The aim this study to evaluate efficacy ultrasound-guided prolotherapy with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for patients who had TMD symptoms, especially in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain, restricted mouth opening, TMJ sound. Methods: Twenty-seven visited Chosun University Dental Hospital symptoms sound were included study. When hospital, we measured; degree range opening (ROM), sound, grouped them according their chief complaints. pain ROM measured both at first visit fourth week after PRP injection, also evaluated impact treatment on daily activities. Results: After treatment, group showed some improvement (visual analogue scale [VAS] 5.6 3.6), exhibited increased (26 mm 32 mm; p<0.05). On other hand, no improvement. Conclusions: could be effective opening. However, further studies are still necessary terms longterm effect prolotherapy.
