ABSTRACT
Somatic idioms – those including a part of the body have been traditionally studied from synchronic perspective, yielding different explanations for their semantic value. The main objective this paper is to highlight diachronic origin idiomatic meaning, by illustrating process phraseologization historical, usage-based perspective. As first step, we will reflect on general nature phraseological and then particularities somatic idioms. Secondly, carryout corpus-based analysis Catalan idiom tapar-se el nas (to hold one’s nose) within framework Invited Inference Theory Semantic Change. stages be exemplified discussed. result, new notion as frozen human actions presented.
